for sale/on sale
If you’re selling something, it’s for sale; but if you lower the price, it goes on sale.

  1. Hi! Perhaps in America this is the case but it is not standard in the U.K.
    'On sale' has nothing to do with lowering the price. Only 'Sale; has that usage. "There is a Sale on in Girly Jeans this Saturday!" "Oh really!- unfortunately our house goes on sale the same day and viewings are my responsibility"
